1111 Relating to: designating April 2024 as Testicular Cancer Awareness Month in
1212 Wisconsin.
1313 Whereas, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among men between the
1414 ages of 20 and 40 and the second most common cancer among boys between the ages
1515 of 15 and 19; and
1616 Whereas, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine, testis cancer, commonly
1717 referred to as testicular cancer, is most common in men in their late 20s and early
1818 30s, with an average age of diagnosis of approximately 33 years of age; and
1919 Whereas, while the average age of men diagnosed is 33 years of age,
2020 approximately 6 percent of cases occur in children and teens, and approximately 8
2121 percent will occur in men over 55 years of age; and
2222 Whereas, according to the American Cancer Society, one in 250 men, or
2323 approximately 9,910 men, will be diagnosed with testicular cancer annually in the
2424 United States; and

4242 Whereas, there will be an estimated 460 testicular cancer-related deaths this
4343 year; and
4444 Whereas, according to the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the number
4545 of cases associated with testicular cancer has seen an increase over the course of
4646 several decades; and
4747 Whereas, the increase of testicular cancer cases is attributed to men being less
4848 likely to schedule regular health examinations and give self-examinations for a
4949 variety of common diseases; and
5050 Whereas, approximately 68 percent of testicular cancer diagnoses are made in
5151 the early stage; and
5252 Whereas, the survival rate is higher for men diagnosed with early stage
5353 testicular cancer rather than later stage testicular cancer; and
5454 Whereas, greater education on testicular cancer will encourage men to
5555 introduce positive health-related habits into their lives; now, therefore, be it
5656 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
5757 State Legislature designates April 2024 as Testicular Cancer Awareness Month in
5858 Wisconsin.
