15 | 15 | | support for lawful and orderly immigration into the United States, as lawful and |

16 | 16 | | orderly immigration provides all of our states and the nation with innumerable |

17 | 17 | | economic, social, and cultural benefits; and |

18 | 18 | | Whereas, the United States is facing a crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border due to |
---|
19 | 19 | | an influx of individuals who are entering the United States illegally; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Whereas, in December 2023, more than 300,000 migrants were apprehended |
---|
21 | 21 | | at the southern border, the highest number in a month ever recorded; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Whereas, thousands of migrants are traveling through harsh, unsafe elements; |
---|
23 | 23 | | being enslaved; and even perishing in their efforts to cross the southern border; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | Whereas, cartels are profiting from the trafficking of women and children |
---|
25 | 25 | | across the border, earning tens of millions of dollars every week doing so; and |

44 | 44 | | immigration laws and securing the border and is working tirelessly to keep America |

46 | 46 | | Whereas, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and local law enforcement |

47 | 47 | | agencies are woefully understaffed and overworked due to the unprecedented influx |

48 | 48 | | of individuals crossing the border illegally; and |

49 | 49 | | Whereas, states have assisted with immigration enforcement in the past by |
---|
50 | 50 | | sending resources and aid, including sending members of the National Guard; and |
---|
51 | 51 | | Whereas, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of Public Safety, |
---|
52 | 52 | | and the Texas National Guard have taken action to secure the border; stop the |
---|
53 | 53 | | smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into Texas; and prevent, detect, and |
---|
54 | 54 | | interdict transnational criminal activity between ports of entry; and |
---|
55 | 55 | | Whereas, Wisconsin can help address the ongoing immigration crisis and |
---|
56 | 56 | | defend our borders by sending aid and resources to assist with immigration efforts; |
---|
57 | 57 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
58 | 58 | | Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin |
---|
59 | 59 | | State Legislature stands in proud support of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection |
---|
60 | 60 | | and law enforcement personnel as employees and members of these agencies |
---|
61 | 61 | | dedicate their lives to protecting the border and keeping our country safe; and, be it |
---|

63 | 63 | | Resolved, That the Wisconsin State Legislature requests Governor Tony |

64 | 64 | | Evers to send aid and resources to the U.S.-Mexico border to assist the U.S. Customs |
