1212 Relating to: requesting Governor Tony Evers to send aid and resources to the
1313 U.S.-Mexico border to assist with immigration efforts.
1414 Whereas, all members of the Wisconsin State Legislature reaffirm their strong
1515 support for lawful and orderly immigration into the United States, as lawful and
1616 orderly immigration provides all of our states and the nation with innumerable
1717 economic, social, and cultural benefits; and
1818 Whereas, the United States is facing a crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border due to
1919 an influx of individuals who are entering the United States illegally; and
2020 Whereas, in December 2023, more than 300,000 migrants were apprehended
2121 at the southern border, the highest number in a month ever recorded; and
2222 Whereas, thousands of migrants are traveling through harsh, unsafe elements;
2323 being enslaved; and even perishing in their efforts to cross the southern border; and
2424 Whereas, cartels are profiting from the trafficking of women and children
2525 across the border, earning tens of millions of dollars every week doing so; and

4343 Whereas, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection is dedicated to enforcing
4444 immigration laws and securing the border and is working tirelessly to keep America
4545 and the American people safe; and
4646 Whereas, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and local law enforcement
4747 agencies are woefully understaffed and overworked due to the unprecedented influx
4848 of individuals crossing the border illegally; and
4949 Whereas, states have assisted with immigration enforcement in the past by
5050 sending resources and aid, including sending members of the National Guard; and
5151 Whereas, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of Public Safety,
5252 and the Texas National Guard have taken action to secure the border; stop the
5353 smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into Texas; and prevent, detect, and
5454 interdict transnational criminal activity between ports of entry; and
5555 Whereas, Wisconsin can help address the ongoing immigration crisis and
5656 defend our borders by sending aid and resources to assist with immigration efforts;
5757 now, therefore, be it
5858 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
5959 State Legislature stands in proud support of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection
6060 and law enforcement personnel as employees and members of these agencies
6161 dedicate their lives to protecting the border and keeping our country safe; and, be it
6262 further
6363 Resolved, That the Wisconsin State Legislature requests Governor Tony
6464 Evers to send aid and resources to the U.S.-Mexico border to assist the U.S. Customs
6565 and Border Protection with the influx of individuals crossing the border illegally.
