12	12	Relating to: proclaiming the month of March 2023 as American Red Cross Month
13	13	throughout the state of Wisconsin.
14	14	Whereas, for more than 100 years, the American Red Cross of Wisconsin has
15	15	provided aid and resources to people in the Badger State to prevent, prepare for, and
16	16	respond to emergencies; and
17	17	Whereas, the American Red Cross is a partner with the U.S. Department of
18	18	Homeland Security and Wisconsin Emergency Management, working to ensure that
19	19	the people of Wisconsin are prepared for disasters; and
20	20	Whereas, the Red Cross offers educational programs that promote health and
21	21	safety; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection,
22	22	processing, and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; and international
23	23	relief and development programs; and
24	24	Whereas, in fiscal year 2021-22, the American Red Cross volunteers and staff
25	25	responded to 856 disasters throughout the state, provided emergency assistance and

43	43	comfort to 4,024 people after local disasters, and distributed thousands of relief
44	44	items; and
45	45	Whereas, more than 3,648 households were made safer and thousands of people
46	46	learned to prevent and prepare for disasters through American Red Cross education
47	47	programs, which included the installation of 2,527 free smoke alarms in Wisconsin
48	48	homes; and
49	49	Whereas, 68,868 Wisconsinites are prepared to help their neighbors during a
50	50	crisis because they have been trained in American Red Cross lifesaving classes, such
51	51	as CPR, use of automated external defibrillators, first aid, water safety, and
52	52	lifeguarding; and
53	53	Whereas, the American Red Cross provided nearly 136,000 critical community
54	54	services to military members, veterans, families, and loved ones, including 3,385
55	55	service cases and 8,069 comfort and care items distributed in the state of Wisconsin;
56	56	and
57	57	Whereas, countless lives were saved because over 231,486 people donated blood
58	58	at 4,225 American Red Cross blood drives throughout Wisconsin; and
59	59	Whereas, through its network of compassionate donors, volunteers, and
60	60	employees, the mission of the American Red Cross continues; now, therefore, be it
61	61	Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
62	62	Legislature does hereby proclaim the month of March 2023 as American Red Cross
63	63	Month throughout the state of Wisconsin to show our support for their humanitarian
64	64	work sharing a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here in Wisconsin and
65	65	around the world.
