14 | 14 | | Relating to: observing Wednesday, March 15, 2023, as Equal Pay Day in Wisconsin. |
---|
15 | 15 | | Whereas, Equal Pay Day occurs each year on the day that symbolizes how far |
---|
16 | 16 | | into the new year women must work full time to earn the same wages that their male |
---|
17 | 17 | | counterparts earned the previous year; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | Whereas, since World War II, when Wisconsin women worked in factories and |
---|
19 | 19 | | shipyards, Wisconsin women remain among the most likely in the United States to |
---|
20 | 20 | | be in the paid workforce, consistently ranking among the top 10 of states; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | Whereas, in 2021, about 63 percent of Wisconsin women age 16 years and older |
---|
22 | 22 | | were in the civilian labor force; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | Whereas, 2023 marks 104 years since the passage of the 19th Amendment by |
---|
24 | 24 | | Congress on June 4, 1919, which was one of the first steps in providing equal rights |
---|
25 | 25 | | to women; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | Whereas, working Wisconsin women contribute to a profoundly better quality |
---|
27 | 27 | | of life in our state by significantly raising the incomes of their families and their |
---|
28 | 28 | | communities; and |

47 | 47 | | Whereas, Wisconsin narrowed its pay equity gap between 2004, when women |
---|
48 | 48 | | earned on average 29 cents less per dollar than men, and 2021, when women earned |
---|
49 | 49 | | on average 17 cents less per dollar; and |
---|
50 | 50 | | Whereas, in 2021, Asian women earned 21 cents less per dollar than Asian men, |
---|
51 | 51 | | Hispanic women earned 12 cents less than Hispanic men, and Black women earned |
---|
52 | 52 | | 6 cents less than Black men; and |
---|
53 | 53 | | Whereas, continued progress in narrowing the pay equity gap in Wisconsin will |
---|
54 | 54 | | help to maintain Wisconsin families' high quality of life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
55 | 55 | | Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature |
