14	14	Relating to: congratulating the University of Wisconsin-Madison women's hockey
15	15	team on winning the 2023 NCAA Division I W omen's Hockey National
16	16	Championship.
17	17	Whereas, the University of Wisconsin-Madison women's hockey team won a
18	18	record-breaking seventh title after securing the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's
19	19	Hockey National Championship by defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes 1-0 in the
20	20	finals of the Frozen Four; and
21	21	Whereas, the UW-Madison women's hockey team demonstrated exceptional
22	22	perseverance, talent, and sportsmanship throughout the 2022-23 season; and
23	23	Whereas, Kirsten Simms scored the winning goal during the first period of the
24	24	game and goalie Cami Kronish had 31 saves throughout the game to hold the
25	25	Badgers' 1-0 lead over top-seeded Ohio State; and
26	26	Whereas, captain Britta Curl is also the first UW women's hockey player to win
27	27	the first 10 NCAA tournament games in which she played—a historic first for UW

47	47	Whereas, the team was led by captain Britta Curl and alternate captains
48	48	Natalie Buchbinder, Jesse Compher, Nicole LaMantia, and Casey O'Brien who were
49	49	joined by teammates Jane Gervais, Sophie Helgeson, Caroline Harvey, Lacey Eden,
50	50	Sophie Shirley, Laila Edwards, Grace Shirley, Mayson Toft, Claire Enright,
51	51	Marianne Picard, Vivian Jungels, Sarah Wozniewicz, Katie Kotlowski, Chayla
52	52	Edwards, Kirsten Simms, Maddi Wheeler, Cami Kronish, and Chloe Baker; and
53	53	Whereas, the team was managed by brilliant coaches and staff, led by head
54	54	coach Mark Johnson, associate head coach Dan Koch, assistant coach Jackie Crum,
55	55	volunteer coach Mark Greenhalgh, director of operations/equipment manager Sis
56	56	Paulsen, athletic trainer Stefanie Arndt, assistant director of brand communications
57	57	A. J. Harrison, program assistant Eric Steffen, assistant strength and conditioning
58	58	coach Paul Valukas, video coordinator Justin Kakuska, student athletic trainer Tim
59	59	Gaffney, and student manager Avery Berry; and
60	60	Whereas, the UW-Madison community and our state take pride in the
61	61	integrity, leadership, and excellence the team has demonstrated in its historic
62	62	accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
63	63	Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
64	64	Wisconsin State Legislature do hereby commend the University of
65	65	Wisconsin-Madison women's hockey team, the coaching staff, the athletic
66	66	department, and the chancellor on winning the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's
67	67	Hockey National Championship title and wish the student-athletes, coaches, and
68	68	staff continued success on and off the ice.
