12 | 12 | | ***AUTHORS SUBJECT TO CHANGE*** |
---|
13 | 13 | | Relating to: recognizing May 8 to May 12, 2023, as Teacher Appreciation Week in |
---|
14 | 14 | | Wisconsin. |
---|
15 | 15 | | Whereas, Wisconsin is home to about 60,000 teachers, who help establish the |
---|
16 | 16 | | foundations of knowledge for over 800,000 children in this state; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | Whereas, one teacher has the potential to touch the lives of over 3,000 children |
---|
18 | 18 | | over the course of his or her career; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | Whereas, teachers encourage in their students a love of reading, scientific |
---|
20 | 20 | | curiosity, appreciation for the arts, and the ability to think independently, among |
---|
21 | 21 | | many other things; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Whereas, teachers can be essential figures in children's lives, looking out for |
---|
23 | 23 | | students who are struggling socially or academically and offering them a helping |
---|
24 | 24 | | hand; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | Whereas, teachers regularly make sacrifices for the sake of their students, |
---|
26 | 26 | | waking up early and staying up late to plan lessons, grade assignments, and |
---|
27 | 27 | | communicate with parents and guardians; and |

45 | 45 | | 2023 - 2024 Legislature |
---|
46 | 46 | | Whereas, when budgets are tight, teachers often pay for supplies out of their |
---|
47 | 47 | | own pockets; and |
---|
48 | 48 | | Whereas, although they have faced innumerable challenges in recent years, |
---|
49 | 49 | | teachers have met these challenges with creativity and grace; and |
---|
50 | 50 | | Whereas, the 2023 Wisconsin Teachers of the Year—Kaelee Heideman, Sarah |
---|
51 | 51 | | Kopplin, Lori Danz, Peggy Billing, and Dustin Anderson—exemplify the ideals all |
---|
52 | 52 | | educators aspire to; and |
---|
53 | 53 | | Whereas, the Wisconsin Legislature must recognize the commitment and hard |
---|
54 | 54 | | work of teachers as a first step in addressing a statewide workforce shortage that |
---|
55 | 55 | | threatens serious consequences for our children; now, therefore, be it |
---|
56 | 56 | | Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin |

57 | 57 | | Legislature hereby proclaims May 8 to May 12, 2023, as Teacher Appreciation Week |

58 | 58 | | in Wisconsin. |
