9	9	Whereas, August 15, 2023, marks the 76th anniversary of the effective date of
10	10	the India Independence Act on August 15, 1947, and the resulting establishment of
11	11	India as a sovereign state independent from the United Kingdom; and
12	12	Whereas, Indian citizens, people of Indian descent, and many others worldwide
13	13	have celebrated India's Independence Day on August 15 each year since 1947; and
14	14	Whereas, the celebration of India's Independence Day provides important
15	15	opportunities to recognize and commemorate India's cultural diversity, extensive
16	16	history, and the many historical and modern contributions of Indian immigrants and
17	17	those of Indian descent to the past and present both in Wisconsin and across the
18	18	world; and
19	19	Whereas, IndiaFest Wisconsin has been held annually since 2013 and features
20	20	hundreds of volunteers, thousands of attendees, and dozens of corporate sponsors all
21	21	gathering to celebrate India's independence, culture, and heritage; and

39	39	Whereas, a variety of sponsors, including the nonprofit organization Spindle
40	40	India, Inc., have made such celebrations possible through generous donations of
41	41	time, effort, and resources that expand cultural education, bring communities
42	42	together, and promote collaboration between India and the United States; and
43	43	Whereas, the continuing efforts of IndiaFest's organizers and volunteers each
44	44	and every year represent invaluable contributions that have and will continue to
45	45	advance cultural understanding of the Indian community and promote diversity and
46	46	inclusion for years to come; now, therefore, be it
47	47	Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
48	48	Legislature observes August 15, 2023, as India Day in Wisconsin.
