| 14 | 14 | | Whereas, Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening emergency that |

| 15 | 15 | | occurs when the heart unexpectedly stops beating; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Whereas, Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a leading cause of death in the United |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | States with more than 356,000 people of all ages experiencing EMS-assessed |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | out-of-hospital nontraumatic SCA each year; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Whereas, approximately 90 percent of people who experience out-of-hospital |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | cardiac arrest die, many because of lack of readily available lifesaving medical |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | equipment; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Whereas, bystanders intervention can double or triple survival rates when |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | cardiopulmonary resuscitation and early defibrillation with an automated external |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | defibrillator are immediately administered; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Whereas, comprehensive educational initiatives are needed to increase |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and its associated treatments among health |
