| 12 | 12 | | Whereas, in the United States, 64 million adults and children have a disability, |

| 13 | 13 | | only 16,000 service dogs from accredited training programs exist nationwide, and the |

| 14 | 14 | | need is growing; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Whereas, Canine Companions is a nonprofit organization that enhances the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | lives of people with disabilities by providing expertly trained service dogs and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Whereas, Canine Companions and their service dogs empower people with |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | disabilities to lead life with greater independence by providing best-in-class |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | training, ongoing follow up services, and a deeply committed community of support; |

| 40 | 40 | | Whereas, Wisconsin continues to work toward becoming an inclusive |

| 41 | 41 | | community in which all citizens, and their service dogs, are embraced; now, |

| 43 | 43 | | Resolved by the assembly, That, in recognition of service dogs and the adults |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | and children with disabilities in our community, the Wisconsin Assembly does |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | hereby proclaim September to be National Service Dog Month; and, be it further |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | Resolved, That the Wisconsin Assembly encourages all citizens to celebrate |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | task trained service dogs and to be respectful of the rights afforded to the adults, |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | children, and veterans who lead more independent lives because of their assistance. |
