15 | 15 | | collector acting on behalf of a health care provider, from reporting to a consumer |

17 | 17 | | provider is in collections status unless 1) the health care provider provided a written |

18 | 18 | | statement to the patient describing the unpaid amount and including the name and |
---|
19 | 19 | | address of the health care provider that provided the services, 2) six months have |
---|
20 | 20 | | passed since the due date listed on that statement, and 3) the patient does not dispute |

22 | 22 | | The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do |

24 | 24 | | SECTION 1. 146.691 of the statutes is created to read: |

27 | 27 | | (a) “Consumer reporting agency” has the meaning given in s. 100.54 (1) (c). |

37 | 37 | | (c) “Patient” has the meaning given in s. 146.81 (3). |

38 | 38 | | (2) No health care provider that provided services, and no billing administrator |

39 | 39 | | or debt collector acting on behalf of that health care provider, may report to a |
---|
40 | 40 | | consumer reporting agency that a debt arising from services provided by the health |
---|
41 | 41 | | care provider is in collections status unless all of the following are true: |

42 | 42 | | (a) The health care provider, billing administrator, or debt collector sent a |
---|
43 | 43 | | written statement to the patient describing the unpaid amount and including the |
---|
44 | 44 | | name and address of the health care provider that provided the services. |

45 | 45 | | (b) Six months have passed since the due date listed on the statement under |
---|
