1010 AN ACT to create 343.085 (2) (d) of the statutes; relating to: exemptions from
1111 the requirement that an original driver's license be a probationary license.
1212 Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
1313 Under current law, a probationary license is, with certain exceptions, issued to
1414 all applicants who qualify for an original driver's license and remains in effect for two
1515 years from the date of the licensee's next birthday. Currently, the following persons
1616 are exempt from this requirement:
1717 1. Certain persons who have been licensed by another jurisdiction.
1818 2. Persons who are issued a commercial driver license.
1919 3. Persons entitled to a regular license under a foreign license reciprocity
2020 agreement.
2121 Those who are exempt from the probationary license requirement are instead
2222 issued a regular license that remains in effect for eight years after the date of
2323 issuance.
2424 Under this bill, a person who provides to the Department of Transportation
2525 documentary proof that the person is enlisted in the U.S. armed forces is also exempt
2626 from the probationary license requirement.

2929 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do

3535 SECTION 1. 343.085 (2) (d) of the statutes is created to read:
3636 343.085 (2) (d) Any person who provides to the department documentary proof
3737 that the person is enlisted in the U.S. armed forces is exempt from this section.
