Specifically, if the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has designated a refrigerant as an acceptable alternative to ozone-depleting refrigerants, DSPS, and a city, village, town, or county may not enact or enforce a building code that prohibits or otherwise limits the use of the refrigerant. Any equipment containing an acceptable alternative refrigerant must be listed and installed in accordance with safety standards and use conditions pursuant to the EPA designation as an acceptable alternative refrigerant.
