	10	+	AN ACT to renumber and amend 347.26 (9); to amend 346.072 (1g) (d); and to
	11	+	create 347.26 (9) (a) 3. and 347.26 (9) (b) of the statutes; relating to: warning
	12	+	lights on public utility, telecommunications carrier, or cooperative vehicles.

	14	+	Under current law, vehicles of a public utility, telecommunications carrier, or
	15	+	cooperative organized for the purpose of producing or furnishing heat, light, power,
	16	+	or water to its members may be equipped with a flashing amber lamp of the dome
	17	+	type or with two flashing amber lamps, one showing to the front and one showing to
	18	+	the rear. Under this bill, such vehicles may be equipped with any of the following
	19	+	configurations of flashing amber or green lamps: 1) a lamp of the dome-light type,
	20	+	2) two lamps, one showing to the front and one showing to the rear, or 3) four lamps,
	21	+	two showing to the front and two showing to the rear. Green warning lamps,
	22	+	however, may only be used when the vehicle is operated for the purpose of restoration
	23	+	of utility service outside of the normal parameters of general maintenance or
	24	+	construction.
	25	+	The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
	26	+	enact as follows:

	34	+	346.072 (1g) (d) Any vehicle of a public utility, telecommunications carrier, or
	35	+	cooperative association described in s. 347.26 (9) displaying one or more flashing
	36	+	amber or green lamps as provided in s. 347.26 (9).
	37	+	SECTION 2. 347.26 (9) of the statutes is renumbered 347.26 (9) (a) (intro.) and
10	38		amended to read:

14		-	amber or green lamps as provided in s. 347.26 (9).
15		-	SECTION 2. 347.26 (9) of the statutes is renumbered
16		-	347.26 (9) (a) (intro.) and amended to read:

19		-	a telecommunications carrier, as defined in s. 196.01

26		-	following configurations of flashing amber lamp or
27		-	green lamps:
28		-	1. A lamp of the dome dome−light type or with 2
29		-	flashing amber.
30		-	2. Two lamps, one showing to the front and one show-
31		-	ing to the rear. Such The lamps shall be mounted approxi-
32		-	mately midway between the extremities of the width of
33		-	the vehicle and at the highest practicable point and shall
34		-	be used only for the purpose of warning operators of other
35		-	vehicles of the presence of the traffic hazard. Should
36		-	such vehicle be of a type so as to make impractical If the
37		-	mounting of such lamps midway between the extremities
38		-	of the width of the vehicle is impracticable because of the
39		-	vehicle’s design, then such the mountings shall be made
40		-	at or near the upper left front and rear corners of such the

42		-	SECTION 3. 347.26 (9) (a) 3. of the statutes is created
43		-	to read:
44		-	347.26 (9) (a) 3. Four lamps, 2 showing to the front
45		-	and 2 showing to the rear. The lamps showing to the front
46		-	shall be mounted at the same level and as widely spaced
47		-	laterally as practicable. The lamps showing to the rear

50		-	SECTION 4. 347.26 (9) (b) of the statutes is created to

55		-	parameters of general maintenance or construction when
56		-	damage or interruption of service has been caused to util-
57		-	ity infrastructure by adverse weather or other events and
58		-	that requires utility crews to park utility vehicles in the

	92	+	interruption of service has been caused to utility infrastructure by adverse weather
	93	+	or other events and that requires utility crews to park utility vehicles in the roadway

	95	+	par. (a) unless the vehicle upon which the lamps are mounted is operated for the
