Validity Period for Annual
Vehicle Admission Receipts
Current law generally prohibits a person from operating a motor vehicle in a state park or in certain
other recreational areas unless the person displays a vehicle admission receipt. The Department of
Natural Resources (DNR) issues both daily and annual vehicle admission receipts, with the latter
commonly referred to as the “state park sticker.”
Under current law, an annual vehicle admission receipt is valid for the calendar year in which it is
issued. 2023 Wisconsin Act 113 provides that, beginning January 1, 2025, an annual vehicle admission
receipt is valid until the final day of the 12
th
month following the month in which it is issued. For
example, an annual vehicle admission receipt issued on March 1, 2025, would be valid through March
31, 2026.
The act also requires the annual vehicle admission receipt to display the year in which it is issued and
the name of each month of the year in a manner that allows DNR to indicate the month in which the
receipt is issued.
Effective date: January 1, 2025
