14 | 14 | | Under current law, certain drugs are classified in one of five separate schedules |

15 | 15 | | based upon certain factors. Controlled substances that have a high potential for |
---|
16 | 16 | | abuse and no currently accepted medical use are included in schedule I. Controlled |
---|
17 | 17 | | substances that have an accepted medical use, have the lowest potential for abuse, |
---|
18 | 18 | | and produce the least dependence when compared with other controlled substances |
---|
19 | 19 | | are included in schedule V. In general, a schedule I controlled substance may not be |
---|
20 | 20 | | dispensed, even with a prescription. Current law also provides that a schedule II or |
---|
21 | 21 | | III controlled substance may not be dispensed unless the person who is picking up |
---|
22 | 22 | | the drug shows his or her identification card. Acceptable forms of identification |
---|
23 | 23 | | include a driver's license, a state identification card, a U.S. uniformed service card, |
---|
24 | 24 | | or a U.S. passport. Current law further requires that the name on the identification |
---|
25 | 25 | | card of the person to whom the controlled substance is dispensed be recorded in the |
---|
26 | 26 | | state's prescription drug monitoring program. |
---|
27 | 27 | | This bill adds an identification card or document issued by a foreign |
---|
28 | 28 | | government and bearing a photograph as an acceptable form of identification for the |
---|
29 | 29 | | aforementioned purposes. |

30 | 30 | | The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do |
