1111 AN ACT to amend 119.04 (1); and to create 20.255 (2) (ch) and 115.422 of the
1212 statutes; relating to: grants to encourage individuals to pursue a career in
1313 teaching or to facilitate teacher licensure, granting rule-making authority, and
1414 making an appropriation.

1616 The bill creates a new grant program administered by the Department of Public
1717 Instruction and available to school districts and operators of independent charter
1818 schools to reimburse the cost of “Grow Your Own” programs. Under the bill, Grow
1919 Your Own programs include high school clubs that encourage careers in teaching,
2020 payment of costs associated with current staff acquiring education needed for
2121 licensure, support for career pathways using dual enrollment, support for
2222 partnerships focused on attracting or developing new teachers, or incentives for
2323 paraprofessionals to gain licensure. The bill appropriates $5,000,000 in fiscal year
2424 2024-25 for this purpose.

4949 (1) In this section, “grow your own program” means a program to encourage

8686 (3) The department shall promulgate rules to implement and administer this
