| 14 | 14 | | Under current law, the Department of Transportation issues a certificate of title |

| 15 | 15 | | to a new owner of a vehicle after ownership of the vehicle is transferred. The new |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | owner pays a $157 fee for a certificate of title after a transfer and a $7.50 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | supplemental title fee. Currently, these two fees are waived when a vehicle is |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | transferred upon a person's death to his or her spouse or domestic partner. |

| 19 | 19 | | Under this bill, these two fees are also waived when a vehicle is transferred |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | upon a person's death to an immediate family member of the decedent. “Immediate |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | family member” is defined under the bill as “a spouse, grandparent, parent, sibling, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | child, stepchild, stepparent, or grandchild, or the spouse of a grandparent, parent, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | sibling, child, stepchild, stepparent, or grandchild.” |

| 45 | 45 | | respect to an application under sub. (3) for transfer of a decedent's interest in a |

| 46 | 46 | | vehicle to his or her surviving spouse or domestic partner under ch. 770 or an |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | immediate family member. The fee specified under this subsection is in addition to |

| 48 | 48 | | any other fee specified in this section. This subsection does not apply to an |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | application for a certificate of title for a low-speed vehicle. |
