1111 AN ACT to create 704.07 (6) of the statutes; relating to: rent abatement for
1212 tenants and granting rule-making authority.

1414 Under current law, generally, if a leased property is damaged or has a condition
1515 that is hazardous to the health or safety of the tenant, the tenant is entitled to abate
1616 rent to the extent that the tenant is deprived of the full normal use of the leased
1717 property. This bill requires the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer
1818 Protection to promulgate rules that specify items for which a tenant may be entitled
1919 to rent abatement and the amount of abatement a tenant would be entitled to for each
2020 item.

2323 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
2424 enact as follows:
2525 SECTION 1. 704.07 (6) of the statutes is created to read:

3131 704.07 (6) RULES. The department of agriculture, trade and consumer
3232 protection shall promulgate rules that specify items for which a tenant is entitled to
3333 rent abatement under sub. (4) and the amount of rent abatement for each item.
