2023 - 2024 LEGISLATURE
2023 SENATE BILL 742
December 8, 2023 - Introduced by Senator KNODL, cosponsored by Representatives
SNYDER, ALLEN, ARMSTRONG, BODDEN, BRANDTJEN, GOEBEN, MURPHY, O'CONNOR
and DITTRICH. Referred to Committee on Education.
AN ACT to amend 118.197 (1) (b) (intro.) of the statutes; relating to: an
alternative teacher certification program for an initial license to teach.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Public Instruction must grant an initial
license to teach to an individual who meets certain eligibility requirements,
possesses a bachelor's degree, and has completed an alternative teacher certification
program that is operated by a nonstock, nonprofit organization and satisfies certain
criteria. This bill removes the requirement that an alternative teacher certification
program be operated by a nonstock, nonprofit organization for purposes of an initial
license to teach.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SECTION 1. 118.197 (1) (b) (intro.) of the statutes is amended to read:
118.197 (1) (b) (intro.) The individual successfully completed an alternative
teacher certification program operated by a nonstock, nonprofit an organization
