9	9	AN ACT to create 27.01 (10) (d) 1m. of the statutes; relating to: reservations and
10	10	fees for camping in certain state parks and modifying administrative rules of
11	11	the Department of Natural Resources.

13	13	This bill modifies the process and fees for reserving camping sites in certain
14	14	state parks, which are established by law and in administrative rules of the
15	15	Department of Natural Resources.
16	16	Currently, camping reservations (reservations) may be made 11 months in
17	17	advance, and nonresidents pay a higher camping fee than residents. Current law
18	18	also authorizes DNR to determine which state campgrounds are located in areas
19	19	where market conditions justify higher camping fees and to promulgate rules
20	20	establishing higher camping fees for those campgrounds.
21	21	Under the bill, for those campgrounds for which DNR has established these
22	22	higher camping fees, residents may begin making reservations 11 months in advance
23	23	and nonresidents may begin making reservations 14 days later. A resident who
24	24	makes a reservation during the 14-day window before a nonresident may do so must
25	25	pay the nonresident camping fee for each night of the reservation, in addition to the
26	26	increased fee established by DNR.

34	34	The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
35	35	enact as follows:
36	36	SECTION 1. 27.01 (10) (d) 1m. of the statutes is created to read:
37	37	27.01 (10) (d) 1m. For campsites for which increased fees have been established
38	38	under par. (h), the department shall charge a camping fee equal to the camping fee
39	39	under subd. 2. for each night for a resident camping party that reserves the campsite
40	40	in the 14-day period during which only residents may apply for reservations as
41	41	provided by the department by rule, except as provided under par. (fm). The fee
42	42	established under this subdivision is in addition to any increased fee established
43	43	under par. (h).
44	44	SECTION 2. NR 45.10 (3) (a) of the administrative code is amended to read:
45	45	NR 45.10 (3) (a) Reservation applications may be accepted for camping up to
46	46	11 months before the date of occupancy. For campgrounds identified in s. NR 45.12
47	47	(2) (b) 5., reservation applications by residents may be accepted for camping up to 11
48	48	months before the date of occupancy, and reservation applications by nonresidents
49	49	may be accepted for camping beginning 14 days after the date applicable to residents.
50	50	The following minimum stays shall apply:
51	51	SECTION 3.0Effective dates. Notwithstanding s. 227.265, this act takes effect
52	52	on June 1, 2025.
