33 2023 - 2024 LEGISLATURE
44 2023 SENATE BILL 770
55 December 8, 2023 - Introduced by Senators MARKLEIN, COWLES and WIRCH,
66 cosponsored by Representatives KITCHENS, BINSFELD, BRANDTJEN, EDMING,
77 MACCO, O'CONNOR, PENTERMAN, SINICKI and DUCHOW. Referred to Committee
88 on Natural Resources and Energy.
99 AN ACT to create 27.01 (10) (d) 1m. of the statutes; relating to: reservations and
1010 fees for camping in certain state parks and modifying administrative rules of
1111 the Department of Natural Resources.
1212 Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
1313 This bill modifies the process and fees for reserving camping sites in certain
1414 state parks, which are established by law and in administrative rules of the
1515 Department of Natural Resources.
1616 Currently, camping reservations (reservations) may be made 11 months in
1717 advance, and nonresidents pay a higher camping fee than residents. Current law
1818 also authorizes DNR to determine which state campgrounds are located in areas
1919 where market conditions justify higher camping fees and to promulgate rules
2020 establishing higher camping fees for those campgrounds.
2121 Under the bill, for those campgrounds for which DNR has established these
2222 higher camping fees, residents may begin making reservations 11 months in advance
2323 and nonresidents may begin making reservations 14 days later. A resident who
2424 makes a reservation during the 14-day window before a nonresident may do so must
2525 pay the nonresident camping fee for each night of the reservation, in addition to the
2626 increased fee established by DNR.
