1111 AN ACT to create 19.35 (3) (h) of the statutes; relating to: fees for redacting
1212 certain records of law enforcement agencies.

1414 Under current law, a government official or agency may charge a fee to a
1515 requester of public records for the actual, necessary, and direct cost incurred to
1616 locate, if the cost exceeds $50, copy, and mail public records in response to the
1717 request.
1818 This bill authorizes law enforcement and corrections agencies to charge a
1919 requester a fee for the actual, necessary, and direct cost of redacting, whether by
2020 pixelization or other means, recorded video content disclosed in response to a public
2121 records request to the extent redaction is necessary to comply with applicable
2222 constitutional, statutory, or common law.

2424 printed as an appendix to this bill.
2525 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
2626 enact as follows:
2727 SECTION 1. 19.35 (3) (h) of the statutes is created to read:
2828 19.35 (3) (h) An authority that is a law enforcement agency, as defined in s.
