1010 AN ACT to amend 125.09 (7) of the statutes; relating to: providing alcohol
1111 beverage retailers with identification scanners.
1212 Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
1313 Current law prohibits municipalities from providing to alcohol beverage retail
1414 licensees any device capable of scanning a driver's license or identification card
1515 issued by the Department of Transportation.
1616 The bill repeals this prohibition and also prohibits a municipality that provides
1717 such a device from collecting or retaining data derived from the device.
1818 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
1919 enact as follows:
2020 SECTION 1. 125.09 (7) of the statutes is amended to read:
2121 125.09 (7) MUNICIPALITY PROVIDING IDENTIFICATION SCANNERS. No If a
2222 municipality may provide, provides to any retail licensee under this chapter, any
2323 device capable of scanning an official identification card, as defined in s. 125.085 (1)
2424 (a) and (b), the municipality may not collect or retain data derived from the device.
