1515 Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
1616 Under current law, an elector may use any of a number of identifying
1717 documents as proof of residence in order to register to vote, including a bank
1818 statement, paycheck, utility bill, property tax bill, check or other document issued
1919 by a unit of government, or current and valid operator's license or identification card
2020 issued by the Department of Transportation. Current law provides that such
2121 identifying documents must specify the elector's name and residential address. This
2222 bill adds the following to the list of identifying documents that an elector may use
2323 as proof of residence in order to register to vote:
2424 1. A W-2 form.
2525 2. A medical billing statement.
2626 3. A service welcome letter, such as from a financial institution, utility, or credit
2727 card company.
2828 4. An insurance document.
2929 5. A report card, official school transcript, or certified school record.
3030 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
3131 enact as follows:

3636 SECTION 1 SENATE BILL 841
3737 SECTION 1. 6.34 (3) (a) 14. of the statutes is created to read:
3838 6.34 (3) (a) 14. A W-2 form for the current year or the year preceding the date
3939 of the election.
4040 SECTION 2. 6.34 (3) (a) 15. of the statutes is created to read:
4141 6.34 (3) (a) 15. A medical billing statement of a physician or hospital for the
4242 period commencing not earlier than 90 days before the day registration is made.
4343 SECTION 3. 6.34 (3) (a) 16. of the statutes is created to read:
4444 6.34 (3) (a) 16. A service welcome letter, such as from a financial institution,
4545 utility, or credit card company, for the period commencing not earlier than 90 days
4646 before the day registration is made.
4747 SECTION 4. 6.34 (3) (a) 17. of the statutes is created to read:
4848 6.34 (3) (a) 17. An insurance document for the current year or the year
4949 preceding the date of the election.
5050 SECTION 5. 6.34 (3) (a) 18. of the statutes is created to read:
