16 | 16 | | Under current law, the Department of Military Affairs must award grants to |

17 | 17 | | public safety answering points, more commonly known as 911 call centers, for a |
---|
18 | 18 | | variety of purposes related to advanced 911 operations. In addition, under a separate |
---|
19 | 19 | | grant program, DMA must award grants to county land information offices for the |
---|
20 | 20 | | purpose of preparing geographic information systems data to help enable advanced |
---|
21 | 21 | | 911 operations. |
---|
22 | 22 | | This bill creates an additional grant program under which DMA must award |
---|
23 | 23 | | grants to public safety answering points and counties for the development and |
---|
24 | 24 | | maintenance of, and technical assistance for implementing, the county's or public |
---|
25 | 25 | | safety answering point's capabilities for storing and accessing 911-caller-provided |
---|
26 | 26 | | health, access, and functional needs information. At least 50 percent of the grants |
---|
27 | 27 | | made by DMA under the program must be made to rural counties or public safety |
---|
28 | 28 | | answering points located in rural counties. A grant awarded under the program |
---|
29 | 29 | | must be for 80 percent of the total anticipated 911-caller-provided health, access, |
---|
30 | 30 | | and functional needs information project cost, and the grant recipient shall secure |

85 | 85 | | SECTION 5. 256.35 (3v) of the statutes is created to read: |

86 | 86 | | 256.35 (3v) 911 SYSTEM CALLER INFORMATION CAPABILITIES. (a) In this subsection, |

87 | 87 | | “911 caller” means an individual that lives in a particular county or public safety |

88 | 88 | | answering point service area in this state regardless of whether the individual has |

89 | 89 | | previously called 911 or accessed an emergency service. |
