88 AN ACT to create 758.20 (4) of the statutes; relating to: the availability of
99 information on crimes through the consolidated court automation programs.
1010 Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
1111 Under current law, the director of state courts maintains the consolidated court
1212 automation programs website, which is the statewide electronic circuit court case
1313 management system. The director of state courts has discretion regarding what
1414 information is available through the CCAP website, with the following exceptions:
1515 1. The director of state courts may not remove case management information
1616 for certain eviction proceedings for specific time periods.
1717 2. The director of state courts must ensure that the CCAP website provides the
1818 Department of Corrections access to certain reporting information.
1919 Under the bill, the director of state courts must ensure that the CCAP website
2020 provides the following information in a searchable format for all crimes: the county
2121 in which charges were filed, the judge assigned to the case, all cases adjudicated by
2222 the judge, and the penalty that was imposed, if any, in the case.
2323 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
2424 enact as follows:
2525 SECTION 1. 758.20 (4) of the statutes is created to read:
2626 758.20 (4) For every crime, as defined in s. 939.12, the director of state courts
2727 shall ensure that the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access Internet site provides all of the

3535 following categories of information in a format that is searchable by each category
3636 of information:
3737 (a) The county in which charges were filed.
3838 (b) The judge assigned to the case.
3939 (c) All cases adjudicated by the judge.
4040 (d) The penalty that was imposed, if any, in the case.
4141 SECTION 2.0Initial applicability.
4242 (1) The treatment of s. 758.20 (4) first applies to case management information
4343 entered before the effective date of this subsection if information regarding the case
4444 is available on the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access Internet site, as defined in s.
4545 758.20 (1), on the effective date of this subsection.
4646 SECTION 3.0Effective date.
4747 (1) This act takes effect on the first day of the 7th month beginning after
4848 publication.
