O'CONNOR, OHNSTAD, PALMERI, PENTERMAN, RETTINGER, SHELTON, SINICKI,
SUBECK, TRANEL, JOERS, EDMING and HAYWOOD. Referred to Committee on
Senate Organization.
Relating to: proclaiming the month of March 2023 as American Red Cross Month
throughout the state of Wisconsin.
Whereas, for more than 100 years, the American Red Cross of Wisconsin has
provided aid and resources to people in the Badger State to prevent, prepare for, and
respond to emergencies; and
Whereas, the American Red Cross is a partner with the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security and Wisconsin Emergency Management, working to ensure that
the people of Wisconsin are prepared for disasters; and
Whereas, the Red Cross offers educational programs that promote health and
safety; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection,
processing, and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; and international
relief and development programs; and
Whereas, in fiscal year 2021-22, the American Red Cross volunteers and staff
responded to 856 disasters throughout the state, provided emergency assistance and

comfort to 4,024 people after local disasters, and distributed thousands of relief
items; and
Whereas, more than 3,648 households were made safer and thousands of people
learned to prevent and prepare for disasters through American Red Cross education
programs, which included the installation of 2,527 free smoke alarms in Wisconsin
homes; and
Whereas, 68,868 Wisconsinites are prepared to help their neighbors during a
crisis because they have been trained in American Red Cross lifesaving classes, such
as CPR, use of automated external defibrillators, first aid, water safety, and
lifeguarding; and
Whereas, the American Red Cross provided nearly 136,000 critical community
services to military members, veterans, families, and loved ones, including 3,385
service cases and 8,069 comfort and care items distributed in the state of Wisconsin;
and
Whereas, countless lives were saved because over 231,486 people donated blood
at 4,225 American Red Cross blood drives throughout Wisconsin; and
Whereas, through its network of compassionate donors, volunteers, and
employees, the mission of the American Red Cross continues; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
Legislature does hereby proclaim the month of March 2023 as American Red Cross
Month throughout the state of Wisconsin to show our support for their humanitarian
work sharing a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here in Wisconsin and
around the world.
