16 | 16 | | under the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is not unlimited and allows |

17 | 17 | | for reasonable restrictions on firearms, including who can have firearms and under |
---|
18 | 18 | | what conditions, where firearms can be carried, and what types of firearms are |
---|
19 | 19 | | permissible; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Whereas, firearms have become the number one cause of death for children in |
---|
21 | 21 | | the United States and Wisconsin; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Whereas, on average, every day in the United States approximately 316 people |
---|
23 | 23 | | are injured or killed with guns in murders, assaults, suicides, and accidents; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | Whereas, in Wisconsin, approximately 600 men, women, and children are |
---|
25 | 25 | | killed with guns each year, and 70 percent of whom die as a result of suicide by |
---|
26 | 26 | | firearm; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | Whereas, in Wisconsin, over 1,000 people are wounded each year by guns; and |

53 | 53 | | Whereas, studies show that gun safety laws save lives and are associated with |

55 | 55 | | Whereas, Wisconsin has a long tradition of responsible gun ownership, safe gun |

56 | 56 | | usage, and training to hunt with firearms; now, therefore, be it |

57 | 57 | | Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature |
---|
58 | 58 | | hereby proclaims June 2, 2023, as Gun Violence Awareness Day in Wisconsin. |
