11	11	AN ACT to amend 69.01 (6g); to create 69.01 (1g) and 69.18 (1) (cL) of the
12	12	statutes; relating to: allowing advanced practice nurse prescribers to
13	13	pronounce the date, time, and place of a patient[s death for purposes of the
14	14	preparation of death records.
15	15	Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
16	16	Under current law, any person who moves a corpse for the purpose of final
17	17	disposition must file a death record for the corpse in a manner prescribed by the
18	18	state registrar when the death occurred in this state, the corpse was found in this
19	19	state, or certain other circumstances apply. For purposes of preparing the death
20	20	record, certain health care providers may pronounce the date, time, and place of the
21	21	death in certain circumstances, including naturopathic doctors and physician
22	22	assistants. This bill allows advanced practice nurse prescribers who are directly
23	23	involved with the care of a patient who dies to pronounce the date, time, and place
24	24	of the patient[s death for purposes of preparation of the death record.
25	25	The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
26	26	enact as follows:
27	27	SECTION 1. 69.01 (1g) of the statutes is created to read:

37	37	69.01 (1g) XAdvanced practice nurse prescriberY means an advanced practice
38	38	nurse who is certified under s. 441.16 (2) to issue prescription orders.
39	39	SECTION 2. 69.01 (6g) of the statutes is amended to read:
40	40	69.01 (6g) XDate of deathY means the date that a person is pronounced dead
41	41	by a physician, naturopathic doctor, coroner, deputy coroner, medical examiner,
42	42	deputy medical examiner, physician assistant, advanced practice nurse prescriber,
43	43	or hospice nurse.
44	44	SECTION 3. 69.18 (1) (cL) of the statutes is created to read:
45	45	69.18 (1) (cL) Except as provided in par. (cm), for purposes of preparation of
46	46	the death record and in accordance with accepted medical standards, an advanced
47	47	practice nurse prescriber who is directly involved with the care of a patient who dies
48	48	may pronounce the date, time, and place of the patient[s death.
