17	17	Relating to: honoring April 22, 2025, as the 55th anniversary of Earth Day.
18	18	Whereas, Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April
19	19	22 to demonstrate support for environmental conservation while recognizing the
20	20	protection of our land, water, and air; and
21	21	Whereas, Earth Day was founded by the U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson of
22	22	Wisconsin, who called for a Xnational teach-in on the crisis of the environmentY to
23	23	be held on April 22, 1970; and
24	24	Whereas, Senator Nelson aimed to send a message to Washington, DC, from
25	25	people across the nation that public opinion called for clean water and air and the
26	26	protection of our environment; and
27	27	Whereas, the first Earth Day motivated 20 million Americans, including 2,000
28	28	colleges, to organize together to advocate for a diverse array of solutions to climate
29	29	challenges; and
30	30	Whereas, Senator Nelson[s leadership and the impacts of the first Earth Day

46	46	went on to produce the Environmental Decade, which ushered in the support of
47	47	environmental legislation such as the National Environmental Policy Act, the
48	48	Endangered Species Act, and stringent amendments to strengthen the Clean Air
49	49	and Clean Water Acts; and
50	50	Whereas, Earth Day is now celebrated in 193 countries around the world,
51	51	creating opportunities for civic engagement and community collaboration to leave a
52	52	more prosperous natural environment for generations to come; and
53	53	Whereas, April 22, 2025, is the 55th anniversary of Earth Day and events will
54	54	take place across Wisconsin and worldwide to encourage actions on behalf of our
55	55	planet to safeguard our natural resources and protect our environment; now,
56	56	therefore, be it
57	57	Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of
58	58	the Wisconsin Legislature honor April 22, 2025, as the 55th anniversary of Earth
59	59	Day and encourage Wisconsinites to continue actions to preserve our environment
60	60	for all to enjoy.
