1414 Relating to: proclaiming April 24, 2025, to be Holocaust Remembrance Day and
1515 April 27, 2025, to May 4, 2025, as Holocaust Days of Remembrance in
1616 Wisconsin.
1717 Whereas, from 1933 to 1945, 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis and
1818 their collaborators in the Holocaust as part of a systematic program of persecution
1919 culminating in genocide, and millions of other people were targeted and killed; and
2020 Whereas, Jews who fell under German control in Eastern and Central Europe
2121 were quickly and cruelly stripped of their rights and property; and
2222 Whereas, the Jews who were murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators
2323 comprised two-thirds of the European Jewish population, and in Poland, which
2424 before the second World War included parts of modern-day Ukraine and Belarus,
2525 the Jewish death toll was 90 percent; and
2626 Whereas, the Holocaust represents a dark period in the history of civilization

4141 of mankind and must always be remembered in order to prevent its reoccurrence
4242 and promote respect and common humanity; and
4343 Whereas, Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, which commemorates
4444 the millions of Jewish victims of the Holocaust, was established by the Israeli
4545 parliament, the Knesset, in 1951. It is observed on the 27th of Nisan in the Hebrew
4646 calendar, which marks the anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising; and
4747 Whereas, the year 2025 marks the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of
4848 Auschwitz-Birkenau; and
4949 Whereas, remembrance ceremonies are held throughout the United States
5050 and around the world to remember the tragedy of the Holocaust, including at the
5151 Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., in the halls of the United Nations in New
5252 York City, and here in Wisconsin; and
5353 Whereas, following the recent acts of hatred and violence against the Jewish
5454 Community, it is critical that we stand together to combat and educate about the
5555 dangers of antisemitism and all forms of hate and bigotry in our communities and
5656 across this State, so we ensure that suffering on the scale of the Holocaust truly
5757 never does happen again; and
5858 Whereas, knowing that the events and root causes of the Holocaust must not
5959 be forgotten and that, particularly as survivors diminish in number, links must be
6060 forged to educate future generations; now, therefore, be it
6161 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
6262 Legislature formally recognizes April 24, 2025, to be Holocaust Remembrance Day
6363 and April 27, 2025, to May 4, 2025, as Holocaust Days of Remembrance in
