1616 Relating to: condemning the pardons and sentence commutations of individuals
1717 involved in the violent attack on law enforcement officers at the U.S. Capitol
1818 on January 6, 2021.
1919 Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature condemns any pardon or sentence
2020 commutation for individuals found guilty of assaulting U.S. Capitol Police officers
2121 on January 6, 2021; and
2222 Whereas, on January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump pardoned or
2323 commuted sentences of individuals who faced criminal prosecution, or were already
2424 serving sentences, for crimes including assault of law enforcement officers and
2525 crimes involving the use of deadly weapons against law enforcement officers; and
2626 Whereas, law enforcement officers across Wisconsin put their lives at risk
2727 every day to protect our communities; and
2828 Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature supports the Wisconsin State

4343 Capitol Police in their important work to protect legislators, constitutional officers,
4444 justices, staff, state employees, and members of the public; and
4545 Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature concurs with the joint
4646 condemnation by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Fraternal
4747 Order of Police of these presidential pardons, which states that Xcrimes against law
4848 enforcement are not just attacks on individuals or public safety—they are attacks
4949 on society and undermine the rule of lawY; now, therefore, be it
5050 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
5151 State Legislature affirms to law enforcement officers across Wisconsin that the
5252 legislature condemns the pardons and commutations of sentences for those found
5353 guilty of violent assaults against law enforcement, including U.S. Capitol Police
5454 officers, on January 6, 2021, and believe that such individuals should be held
5555 accountable for their actions.
