14	14	Relating to: proclaiming May 2025 and May 2026 as Jewish American Heritage
15	15	Months.
16	16	Whereas, since 2006, Jewish American Heritage Month has been observed
17	17	nationwide every May to recognize the more than 370-year history of Jewish
18	18	contributions to our nation[s civic, social, economic, and cultural life; and
19	19	Whereas, it is estimated that over 330,000 persecuted Jews from Germany,
20	20	Russia, Poland, and several other countries overcame restrictions and immigration
21	21	quotas to find refuge in the United States between 1933 and 1952; and
22	22	Whereas, many Jewish American survivors of the Holocaust have dedicated
23	23	their lives to fighting for civil rights and educating future generations about the
24	24	dangers of bigotry and anti-Semitism and the resilience of the human spirit; and
25	25	Whereas, it is estimated that over 33,000 Jews live in Wisconsin today,
26	26	worshiping at over 30 active synagogues; and

41	41	Whereas, the University of Wisconsin-Madison branch of Hillel began in 1924
42	42	and is the second-oldest in the nation; and
43	43	Whereas, several renowned Jewish Americans have resided in Wisconsin,
44	44	including author Edna Ferber, U.S. Senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold, actors
45	45	Gene Wilder and Charlotte Rae, magician Harry Houdini, and Israeli Prime
46	46	Minister Golda Meir; and
47	47	Whereas, the Jewish tenet tikkun olam, translated from Hebrew as Xrepair of
48	48	the world,Y is a call to Jews to pursue justice and righteousness for all of humanity;
49	49	and
50	50	Whereas, the Jewish experience in America has consistently reminded us that
51	51	liberty and opportunity ultimately triumph over prejudice and hate; now, therefore,
52	52	be it
53	53	Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
54	54	Legislature proclaims May 2025 and May 2026 as Jewish American History
55	55	Months and joins all Wisconsinites in thanking our fellow Jewish American citizens
56	56	for shaping our country[s character, strengthening our promise of religious
57	57	freedom, and teaching us the virtues of justice, hope, and perseverance.
