1414 Relating to: designating May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Wisconsin.
1515 Whereas, Mental Health Awareness Month provides a meaningful
1616 opportunity to recognize the vital role mental well-being plays in the health of
1717 individuals, families, and communities across Wisconsin, to promote informed
1818 dialogue, and to address the stigma surrounding mental health; and
1919 Whereas, mental health conditions affect one in five U.S. adults and one in six
2020 youth annually, touching the lives of Wisconsinites across every age group and
2121 region; and
2222 Whereas, Wisconsin is facing a significant rise in youth mental health
2323 challenges, mirroring a nationwide 31 percent increase in emergency room visits
2424 related to mental health among young people in 2020, a concerning trend that has
2525 continued to grow in recent years; and
2626 Whereas, in both rural and urban settings, access to professional mental

4141 health services across all 72 Wisconsin counties remains essential for meeting the
4242 mental health needs of Wisconsin[s population; and
4343 Whereas, by providing care, guidance, and connection, mental health
4444 professionals and peer support networks empower individuals to manage mental
4545 health challenges and work toward a brighter, healthier future; and
4646 Whereas, with effective treatment, education, and community support,
4747 individuals experiencing mental health conditions can recover, grow, and thrive;
4848 and
4949 Whereas, the Wisconsin Legislature recognizes the critical need to strengthen
5050 mental health systems and remains committed to advancing initiatives that expand
5151 access, reduce barriers, and improve awareness; now, therefore, be it
5252 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
5353 Legislature designates May 2025 and May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness
5454 Months in Wisconsin.
