22 | 22 | | Whereas, safe, reliable, and affordable electricity is critical to the operation of |

24 | 24 | | Whereas, supporting a diverse energy portfolio is key to meeting Wisconsin[s |

25 | 25 | | growing energy demands as well as achieving reduced carbon emission goals; and |

47 | 47 | | nuclear medicine capable of diagnoses and treatment of heart disease, cancer, and |

48 | 48 | | other serious illnesses; and |

49 | 49 | | Whereas, new nuclear energy technologies such as nuclear fusion provide |
---|
50 | 50 | | prospects for economic growth and worldwide technology leadership that the state |
---|
51 | 51 | | may leverage and support, and such technologies also promote traditional areas of |
---|
52 | 52 | | strength such as manufacturing, advanced data, and control; and |
---|
53 | 53 | | Whereas, nuclear power and fusion energy are critical parts of our country[s |
---|
54 | 54 | | economic and national security goals of energy independence; and |
---|
55 | 55 | | Whereas, there are currently 94 nuclear reactors across the United States, |
---|
56 | 56 | | operating in 28 states and accounting for 45.5 percent of the country[s carbon-free |
---|
57 | 57 | | electricity generation; and |
---|
58 | 58 | | Whereas, Wisconsin repealed its nuclear moratorium in 2016 and currently |
---|
59 | 59 | | operates two reactors at Point Beach Nuclear Plant; and |
---|
60 | 60 | | Whereas, 1.2 million homes are powered by nuclear energy in Wisconsin and |
---|
61 | 61 | | 650 high-paying jobs are created by Wisconsin[s nuclear power plant; and |
---|
62 | 62 | | Whereas, nuclear energy has allowed Wisconsin to avoid 6.4 million metric |
---|
63 | 63 | | tons of carbon emissions and accounts for 66.6 percent of the state[s carbon-free |
---|
64 | 64 | | electricity production; and |
---|
65 | 65 | | Whereas, Wisconsin boasts world class academic institutions capable of |
---|

95 | 95 | | promising technological advances in the nuclear industry; and |

96 | 96 | | Whereas, today[s growing energy demands coupled with the revolutionary |
---|
97 | 97 | | advancements in nuclear power and fusion energy technology have created an |
---|
98 | 98 | | environment where Wisconsin must be poised to facilitate nuclear power and fusion |
---|
99 | 99 | | energy development and expansion; now, therefore, be it |
---|
100 | 100 | | Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin |
---|
101 | 101 | | State Legislature supports nuclear power and fusion energy as clean energy |
---|
102 | 102 | | sources that are critical to safely meeting Wisconsin[s growing energy demands; |
---|
103 | 103 | | and be it further |
---|
104 | 104 | | Resolved, That the State of Wisconsin declares its commitment to the |
---|
105 | 105 | | continuation and expansion of nuclear power, fusion energy, and nuclear |
---|
106 | 106 | | technologies and shall employ the leadership and resources necessary to support |
---|
107 | 107 | | the development and investment of nuclear power, fusion energy, and related |
---|
