2020 Relating to: honoring the life and enduring legacy of Robert George Uecker.
2121 Whereas, Robert George Uecker, better known as Bob Uecker, or XMr.
2222 Baseball,Y was born on January 26, 1934, and passed away on January 16, 2025,
2323 having reached the age of 90 with a 69-year career in professional baseball; and
2424 Whereas, Uecker is succeeded in life by his children Sue Ann and Bob Jr. and
2525 his second wife, Judy, and, sadly, was preceded in death by his children Steve and
2626 Leann and his first wife, Joyce; and
2727 Whereas, Uecker was the primary radio broadcaster for his hometown team,
2828 the Milwaukee Brewers, and, having served in that role for 54 years, is one of the
2929 longest-tenured broadcasters with one team in the history of Major League
3030 Baseball; and
3131 Whereas, Uecker[s engaging style as a broadcaster is unrivaled, bringing joy
3232 to fans, even during less successful Brewers seasons; and

4747 Whereas, Uecker was famously dubbed XMr. BaseballY by The Tonight Show
4848 host Johnny Carson and appeared over 100 times on the show; and
4949 Whereas, to many, Uecker[s voice is known as Xthe soundtrack of SummerY;
5050 and
5151 Whereas, Uecker was the son of August Uecker and Mary Schultz Uecker; and
5252 Whereas, Uecker was born and raised in Milwaukee and grew up watching the
5353 minor league Milwaukee Brewers at Borchert Field; and
5454 Whereas, in 1954 Uecker enlisted in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of
5555 corporal; and
5656 Whereas, during his service to our nation, Uecker played baseball at Fort
5757 Leonard Wood and Fort Belvoir; and
5858 Whereas, following his service, Uecker signed with the Milwaukee Braves in
5959 1956 as a minor league player; and
6060 Whereas, in his first season in the minor league, Uecker played with the Eau
6161 Claire Bears of the Northern League and the Boise Braves of the Pioneer League;
6262 and
6363 Whereas, Uecker made his major league debut as a catcher in 1962; and
6464 Whereas, prior to the 1964 season, the Milwaukee Braves traded Uecker to the
6565 St. Louis Cardinals—the Cardinals won the World Series that season, defeating the
6666 New York Yankees; and
6767 Whereas, Uecker also played for the Philadelphia Phillies before being traded
6868 back to the Braves in 1967, which had moved to Atlanta since Uecker had last
6969 played for the team; and
7070 Whereas, in 1967, Uecker retired from professional baseball while playing for

9898 Whereas, following his career as a player, Uecker began broadcasting, starting
9999 with WSB-TV in Atlanta, and subsequently calling play-by-play for the Milwaukee
100100 Brewers[ radio broadcasts beginning in 1971; and
101101 Whereas, Uecker[s humor propelled him to great success as a broadcaster,
102102 actor, and author, with endeavors in and out of baseball, including several television
103103 programs, such as Bob Uecker[s Whacky World of Sports and Bob Uecker[s War of the
104104 Stars, and several books, such as an autobiography titled Catcher in the Wry and a
105105 baseball memoir and commentary titled Catch .222; and
106106 Whereas, Uecker was also a talented actor, starring as George Owens in the
107107 sitcom Mr. Belvedere, which originally aired from 1985 to 1990, and playing Harry
108108 Doyle in the film Major League, in which he delivered the famous line XJust a bit
109109 outside!Y; Uecker also made cameo and in-person appearances in productions such
110110 as The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live; and
111111 Whereas, Uecker also appeared in a series of famous Miller Lite commercials
112112 during the 1980s, which became the source for one of his wittiest catchphrases—XI
113113 must be in the front rowY—and inspired the term XUecker seatsY to describe upper-
114114 deck, obstructed-view seats in baseball stadiums; and
115115 Whereas, Uecker[s talent is widely recognized and honored with many awards:
116116 he was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998; he was inducted
117117 into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2001; he was honored by the Major League Baseball
118118 Hall of Fame with the Ford C. Frick Award, presented to broadcasters for major
119119 contributions to baseball, in 2003; he was inducted into the National Sportscasters

145145 and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame in 2011; and he was inducted into the
146146 National Association of Broadcasters Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2012; and
147147 Whereas, as the XVoice of the Milwaukee Brewers,Y Uecker is memorialized
148148 with two statues on the grounds of American Family Field: one statue was
149149 dedicated in 2012 and sits outside the stadium alongside fellow Hall of Famers
150150 Hank Aaron, Robin Yount, and Bud Selig; and the other sits in the last row of the
151151 XUecker SeatsY on the terrace level of the stadium; and
152152 Whereas, Uecker[s name can also be found in the inaugural class of the
153153 Brewers Wall of Honor and was added to the Brewers Walk of Fame in 2003; and
154154 Whereas, the Brewers plan to hold celebrations of Uecker[s life later this year
155155 and have announced plans to create a XUecker ExperienceY at American Family
156156 Field; and
157157 Whereas, Uecker demonstrated a steadfast commitment to philanthropy,
158158 being known to distribute food and other goods to individuals in need and support
159159 organizations such as the ALS Association, the Make a Wish Foundation, the
160160 United Performing Arts Fund, the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer
161161 Fund, the Milwaukee Symphony, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, Big
162162 Brothers/Big Sisters, and Wounded Warriors, in addition to advocating for cystic
163163 fibrosis and heart disease research; and
164164 Whereas, Bob Uecker[s unparalleled dedication to baseball, broadcasting,
165165 entertainment, and his community enriched the lives of countless fans in Wisconsin
166166 and beyond; and
167167 Whereas, Bob Uecker will be sorely missed and enduringly remembered by
168168 fans the world over; now, therefore, be it

194194 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of
195195 the Wisconsin Legislature honor the life and enduring legacy of Bob Uecker,
196196 recognize his extraordinary contributions to baseball, broadcasting, entertainment,
197197 and philanthropy, and extend their deepest condolences to his family, friends, and
