1010 Relating to: recognizing the achievements of women athletes in Wisconsin.
1111 Whereas, the Wisconsin Assembly recognizes the numerous Wisconsin women
1212 at the professional and collegiate levels who have led the way and are continuing to
1313 advance women[s achievements in athletics; and
1414 Whereas, first, the University of Wisconsin[s Women[s Ice Hockey Team and
1515 their numerous Frozen Four Championships (2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2019, 2021,
1616 and 2023). Numerous Badgers have been selected as the Frozen Four Most
1717 Outstanding Player: Jessie Vetter in 2006 and 2009, Sara Bauer in 2007, Meghan
1818 Duggan and Hilary Knight in 2011, Kristen Campbell in 2019, Makenna Webster in
1919 2021, and Cami Kronish in 2023; and
2020 Whereas, Margaret Danhauser was born in 1921 in Racine, Wisconsin. She
2121 was a member of the Racine Belles, playing at first base, in the All-American Girls
2222 Professional Baseball League. She won the first All-American Girls Professional
2323 Baseball League World Championship with the Belles in 1943. The 1992 film XA

3939 League of Their OwnY is based on the Racine Belles and the All-American Girls
4040 Professional Baseball League; and
4141 Whereas, Beth Heiden, a Madison native, won the bronze medal for the 3000-
4242 meter speedskating event at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.
4343 She is also one of two American women to have become world all-around champion,
4444 and was inducted in the National Speedskating Hall of Fame in 1989; and
4545 Whereas, Gwen Jorgensen is a native of Waukesha and competed on the
4646 Wisconsin Badgers Swimming and Track and Field Teams. She won the World
4747 Championship in 2014 and 2015 before winning the gold medal in the triathlon at
4848 the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Gwen is now known as XQueen of TriathlonY;
4949 and
5050 Whereas, Bonnie Blair is a resident of Delafield, Wisconsin, and is one of the
5151 most decorated Olympians of all time. Blair won five gold medals between the 1988
5252 Calgary Winter Olympics, 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, and the 1994
5353 Lillehammer Winter Olympics as a speedskater. Bonnie has been inducted in the
5454 Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame and was elected in the United States Olympic Hall
5555 of Fame in 2004; and
5656 Whereas, Chellsie Memmel is a West Allis native who competed in gymnastics
5757 at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She is decorated gymnast with three gold medals
5858 from the 2003 and 2005 World Championships and was inducted into the
5959 International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2022; now, therefore, be it
6060 Resolved by the assembly, That the Wisconsin Assembly recognizes the
6161 achievements of women athletes in Wisconsin.
