1212 AN ACT to amend 108.09 (1) of the statutes; relating to: requests for
1313 information from employers about unemployment insurance claims.
1414 Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
1515 Under current rules of the Department of Workforce Development, in order to
1616 determine unemployment insurance (UI) benefit claims, DWD may require
1717 employers to provide information about claimants[ employment separations, dates
1818 of work, wages and other payments, and other issues that may be disqualifying.
1919 This bill requires DWD to allow an employer no less than 12 business days to
2020 respond to an initial request for information about a UI benefit claim.
2121 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
2222 enact as follows:
2323 SECTION 1. 108.09 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:
2424 108.09 (1) FILING. Claims for benefits shall be filed pursuant to department
2525 rules. Each employer that is notified of a benefit claim shall promptly inform the
2626 department in writing as to any eligibility question in objection to such claim
2727 together with the reasons for the objection. The department shall allow an

4141 also obtain information from the employee concerning the employee[s eligibility,
4242 employment or wages.
4343 SECTION 2. Initial applicability.
4444 (1) This act first applies to requests for information related to claims filed for
4545 the week beginning on or after the effective date of this subsection.
