14 | 14 | | establish a competitive grant program that is open to public and private schools for |

15 | 15 | | grants to improve the safety of school buildings and to provide security training to |

16 | 16 | | school personnel. In administering the program, the Office of School Safety must |
---|
17 | 17 | | give preference to applicants that have not yet received a school safety grant from |
---|
18 | 18 | | DOJ. The bill provides $30,000,000 for these grants and specifies that the |
---|
19 | 19 | | maximum amount DOJ may award to an applicant is $20,000. The bill also |
---|
20 | 20 | | requires the Office of School Safety to submit an annual report related to these |
---|
21 | 21 | | grants to the Joint Committee on Finance. Finally, the grant program sunsets on |
---|
22 | 22 | | July 1, 2027. |

49 | 49 | | 3. XPublic schoolY has the meaning given in s. 115.01 (1). |

50 | 50 | | 4. XTribal schoolY has the meaning given in s. 115.001 (15m). |

51 | 51 | | (b) 1. The office shall establish a competitive grant program to award grants |
---|
52 | 52 | | to public, private, and tribal schools to improve the safety of school buildings and to |
---|
53 | 53 | | provide security training to school personnel. |
---|
54 | 54 | | 2. In awarding grants under this paragraph, the office shall give preference to |
---|
55 | 55 | | applicants that have not received a grant under s. 165.88. |

90 | 90 | | SECTION 5. Effective dates. This act takes effect on the day after |
---|
91 | 91 | | publication, or on the 2nd day after publication of the 2025 biennial budget act, |

92 | 92 | | whichever is later, except as follows: |
