Relating to: condemning the pardons and sentence commutations of individuals 
involved in the violent attack on law enforcement officers at the U.S. Capitol 
on January 6, 2021.
Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature condemns any pardon or sentence 
commutation for individuals found guilty of assaulting U.S. Capitol Police officers 
on January 6, 2021; and
Whereas, on January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump pardoned or 
commuted sentences of individuals who faced criminal prosecution, or were already 
serving sentences, for crimes including assault of law enforcement officers and 
crimes involving the use of deadly weapons against law enforcement officers; and
Whereas, law enforcement officers across Wisconsin put their lives at risk 
every day to protect our communities; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature supports the Wisconsin State

Capitol Police in their important work to protect legislators, constitutional officers, 
justices, staff, state employees, and members of the public; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature concurs with the joint 
condemnation by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Fraternal 
Order of Police of these presidential pardons, which states that Xcrimes against law 
enforcement are not just attacks on individuals or public safety—they are attacks 
on society and undermine the rule of lawY; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin 
State Legislature affirms to law enforcement officers across Wisconsin that the 
legislature condemns the pardons and commutations of sentences for those found 
guilty of violent assaults against law enforcement, including U.S. Capitol Police 
officers, on January 6, 2021, and believe that such individuals should be held 
accountable for their actions.
