12	12	Relating to: proclaiming April 24, 2025, to be Holocaust Remembrance Day and
13	13	April 27, 2025, to May 4, 2025, as Holocaust Days of Remembrance in
14	14	Wisconsin.
15	15	Whereas, from 1933 to 1945, 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis and
16	16	their collaborators in the Holocaust as part of a systematic program of persecution
17	17	culminating in genocide, and millions of other people were targeted and killed; and
18	18	Whereas, Jews who fell under German control in Eastern and Central Europe
19	19	were quickly and cruelly stripped of their rights and property; and
20	20	Whereas, the Jews who were murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators
21	21	comprised two-thirds of the European Jewish population, and in Poland, which
22	22	before the second World War included parts of modern-day Ukraine and Belarus,
23	23	the Jewish death toll was 90 percent; and
24	24	Whereas, the Holocaust represents a dark period in the history of civilization

39	39	of mankind and must always be remembered in order to prevent its reoccurrence
40	40	and promote respect and common humanity; and
41	41	Whereas, Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, which commemorates
42	42	the millions of Jewish victims of the Holocaust, was established by the Israeli
43	43	parliament, the Knesset, in 1951. It is observed on the 27th of Nisan in the Hebrew
44	44	calendar, which marks the anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising; and
45	45	Whereas, the year 2025 marks the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of
46	46	Auschwitz-Birkenau; and
47	47	Whereas, remembrance ceremonies are held throughout the United States
48	48	and around the world to remember the tragedy of the Holocaust, including at the
49	49	Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., in the halls of the United Nations in New
50	50	York City, and here in Wisconsin; and
51	51	Whereas, following the recent acts of hatred and violence against the Jewish
52	52	Community, it is critical that we stand together to combat and educate about the
53	53	dangers of antisemitism and all forms of hate and bigotry in our communities and
54	54	across this State, so we ensure that suffering on the scale of the Holocaust truly
55	55	never does happen again; and
56	56	Whereas, knowing that the events and root causes of the Holocaust must not
57	57	be forgotten and that, particularly as survivors diminish in number, links must be
58	58	forged to educate future generations; now, therefore, be it
59	59	Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
60	60	Legislature formally recognizes April 24, 2025, to be Holocaust Remembrance Day
61	61	and April 27, 2025, to May 4, 2025, as Holocaust Days of Remembrance in
