1212 Relating to: proclaiming April 24, 2025, to be Holocaust Remembrance Day and
1313 April 27, 2025, to May 4, 2025, as Holocaust Days of Remembrance in
1414 Wisconsin.
1515 Whereas, from 1933 to 1945, 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis and
1616 their collaborators in the Holocaust as part of a systematic program of persecution
1717 culminating in genocide, and millions of other people were targeted and killed; and
1818 Whereas, Jews who fell under German control in Eastern and Central Europe
1919 were quickly and cruelly stripped of their rights and property; and
2020 Whereas, the Jews who were murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators
2121 comprised two-thirds of the European Jewish population, and in Poland, which
2222 before the second World War included parts of modern-day Ukraine and Belarus,
2323 the Jewish death toll was 90 percent; and
2424 Whereas, the Holocaust represents a dark period in the history of civilization

3939 of mankind and must always be remembered in order to prevent its reoccurrence
4040 and promote respect and common humanity; and
4141 Whereas, Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, which commemorates
4242 the millions of Jewish victims of the Holocaust, was established by the Israeli
4343 parliament, the Knesset, in 1951. It is observed on the 27th of Nisan in the Hebrew
4444 calendar, which marks the anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising; and
4545 Whereas, the year 2025 marks the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of
4646 Auschwitz-Birkenau; and
4747 Whereas, remembrance ceremonies are held throughout the United States
4848 and around the world to remember the tragedy of the Holocaust, including at the
4949 Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., in the halls of the United Nations in New
5050 York City, and here in Wisconsin; and
5151 Whereas, following the recent acts of hatred and violence against the Jewish
5252 Community, it is critical that we stand together to combat and educate about the
5353 dangers of antisemitism and all forms of hate and bigotry in our communities and
5454 across this State, so we ensure that suffering on the scale of the Holocaust truly
5555 never does happen again; and
5656 Whereas, knowing that the events and root causes of the Holocaust must not
5757 be forgotten and that, particularly as survivors diminish in number, links must be
5858 forged to educate future generations; now, therefore, be it
5959 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
6060 Legislature formally recognizes April 24, 2025, to be Holocaust Remembrance Day
6161 and April 27, 2025, to May 4, 2025, as Holocaust Days of Remembrance in
