1212 Relating to: declaration of the Economic Justice Bill of Rights.
1313 Whereas, the compounding challenges of our time require resolve to uphold
1414 every person[s right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and, as such,
1515 demand the establishment of the Economic Justice Bill of Rights; and
1616 Whereas, now is the time to close the historical disparities that have existed
1717 for many disenfranchised Wisconsin communities; and
1818 Whereas, this legislative body is the most diverse legislative body in Wisconsin
1919 history, with unprecedented representation; and
2020 Whereas, with broad support for bold and progressive policy relating to our
2121 current reality, the establishment of the Economic Justice Bill of Rights is essential
2222 to the fulfillment of public service; and
2323 Whereas, the people of Wisconsin, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, age,
2424 gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability status,

3939 immigration status, and country of origin, are entitled to the freedoms expressed in
4040 the Economic Justice Bill of Rights; and
4141 Whereas, these Rights will set the foundation for a prosperous Wisconsin that
4242 works for all; and
4343 Whereas, we declare that the Economic Justice Bill of Rights includes the
4444 following:
4545 1. A job that provides dignity at work and pays a living wage;
4646 2. Adequately funded public education and affordable, accessible child care;
4747 3. A union, public or private, and collective bargaining;
4848 4. Affordable, accessible, and comprehensive high-quality health care;
4949 5. A clean, sustainable environment and healthy planet;
5050 6. Decent, sustainable community infrastructures including safe, affordable
5151 housing, transportation, and broadband;
5252 7. Equitable access to capital, investments, financial institutions, and
5353 retirement;
5454 8. A fair, restorative, and equitable justice system;
5555 9. Recreation and participation in community and civic life; and
5656 10. Life, self-determination, and freedom from oppressions for all
5757 Wisconsinites regardless of documentation status; now, therefore, be it
5858 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the time has come
5959 to renew the progressive tradition of Wisconsin through the Economic Justice Bill of
6060 Rights and in a 21st-century fashion.
