1212 Relating to: designating May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Wisconsin.
1313 Whereas, Mental Health Awareness Month provides a meaningful
1414 opportunity to recognize the vital role mental well-being plays in the health of
1515 individuals, families, and communities across Wisconsin, to promote informed
1616 dialogue, and to address the stigma surrounding mental health; and
1717 Whereas, mental health conditions affect one in five U.S. adults and one in six
1818 youth annually, touching the lives of Wisconsinites across every age group and
1919 region; and
2020 Whereas, Wisconsin is facing a significant rise in youth mental health
2121 challenges, mirroring a nationwide 31 percent increase in emergency room visits
2222 related to mental health among young people in 2020, a concerning trend that has
2323 continued to grow in recent years; and
2424 Whereas, in both rural and urban settings, access to professional mental

3939 health services across all 72 Wisconsin counties remains essential for meeting the
4040 mental health needs of Wisconsin[s population; and
4141 Whereas, by providing care, guidance, and connection, mental health
4242 professionals and peer support networks empower individuals to manage mental
4343 health challenges and work toward a brighter, healthier future; and
4444 Whereas, with effective treatment, education, and community support,
4545 individuals experiencing mental health conditions can recover, grow, and thrive;
4646 and
4747 Whereas, the Wisconsin Legislature recognizes the critical need to strengthen
4848 mental health systems and remains committed to advancing initiatives that expand
4949 access, reduce barriers, and improve awareness; now, therefore, be it
5050 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
5151 Legislature designates May 2025 and May 2026 as Mental Health Awareness
5252 Months in Wisconsin.
