HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 10 (By Delegates Hillenbrand and G. Howell) [Introduced February 13, 2025; Referred to the Committee on Energy and Public Works then Rules. ] Requesting the Division of Highways name a portion of Knobley Road, specifically beginning where U.S. Route 50 meets W.V. Route 9 (39.34980, -78.99220) and ending where W.V. Route 9 meets W.V. Route 18 (39.36571, -78.98110), in Mineral County, the "U. S. Marine Corps PFC Robert Thomas Taylor Memorial Road". Whereas, PFC Robert Thomas Taylor lived a life worthy of remembrance; and Whereas, Robert was born May 2nd, 1950, in Keyser, WV and grew up in Burlington, WV where he attended Burlington Elementary School and graduated from Keyser High School in June of 1968; Whereas, In September 1968, Robert enlisted in the Marine Corps and was sent to Parris Island, South Carolina for boot camp; and Whereas, After boot camp, Robert was sent to Camp Pendleton in California for additional training; and Whereas, After the completion of his training, Robert would be sent to South Vietnam to serve with L Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division; and Whereas, He was tragically killed in Action on May 12th, 1969, in Quang Nam, South Vietnam while operating an M60 machine gun and serving beside Jeff Latham, who recounted Robert's heroics to his family; and Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate U.S.M.C PFC Robert Thomas Taylor and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia: That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name a portion of Knobley Road, specifically beginning where U.S. Route 50 meets W.V. Route 9 (39.34980, -78.99220) and ending where W.V. Route 9 meets W.V. Route 18 (39.36571, -78.98110), in Mineral County, the "U. S. Marine Corps PFC Robert Thomas Taylor Memorial Road"; and, be it Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs at both ends identifying the portion of road as the "U. S. Marine Corp PFC Robert Thomas Taylor Memorial Road"; and, be it Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
