HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 24 (By Delegates Sheedy, Foggin, Horst, Hornby, Stephens, Barnhart, Mallow, Willis, Hillenbrand, and DeVault) [Introduced February 14, 2025; Referredto the committee on Energy and Public Works then Rules ] Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 52-250/00-009.13 (52A141), at Lat/Long: 39.70457, -80.52336, locally known as Littleton Bridge, carrying US 250 over West Virginia Fork of Fish Creek in Wetzel County, the "Postlethwait Brothers Memorial Bridge". Whereas, Clarence Postlethwait was born in Littleton in Wetzel County on August 23, 1913, to Samuel J. Postlethwait and Louisianna Mae Villers Postlethwait; and Whereas, John Lloyd Postlethwait was born in Littleton in Wetzel County on December 26, 1926; and Whereas, Frank Postlethwait was born in Littleton in Wetzel County on March 22, 1932; and Whereas, George W. Postlethwait was born in Littleton in Wetzel County on March 22, 1932; and Whereas, Clarence Postlethwait served in the Army during World War II, earning the rank of Corporal; and Whereas, John Lloyd Postlethwait served in the Army during World War II, earning the rank of Corporal, and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal; and Whereas, Frank Postlethwait served in the Air Force in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, earning the rank of Chief Master Sergeant in his military career that spanned more than thirty years; Whereas, George Postlethwait joined the Army in 1950 and fought in Korea, where he earned a Combat Infantryman Badge with Company G in the Fifth Infantry, earning the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars in 1950 and earned another two Bronze Service Stars when he was separated from the Army in 1952 with a permanent total disability due to injuries he received on April 4, 1951, for which he was awarded a Purple Heart; and Whereas, Clarence Postlethwait passed away on January 1, 1991, John Lloyd Postlethwait died on March 24, 1981, Frank Postlethwait died on March 5, 2016, and George Postlethwait passed away on May 19, 2006; and Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate Clarence, John Lloyd, Frank, and George Postlethwait and their contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia: That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 52-250/00-009.13 (52A141), at Lat/Long: 39.70457, -80.52336, locally known as Littleton Bridge, carrying US 250 over West Virginia Fork of Fish Creek in Wetzel County, the "Postlethwait Brothers Memorial Bridge"; and, be it Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "Postlethwait Brothers Memorial Bridge"; and, be it Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
