                            HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 85

Requesting the Division of Highways name Bridge Number: 32-122/00-008.20  () (32A055), (37.53944, -80.66056) locally known as INDIAN CREEK BRIDGE, carrying WV 122 over INDIAN CREEK in Monroe County,  the "U. S. Army PFC Robert F. Mann Memorial Bridge".

Virginia. His parents were Lacie Clower Mann and Lewis Alderson Mann; and

Whereas, PFC Robert F. Mann attended Greenville School, where he played football and concealed that fact from his mother until she saw a photo of him in his football uniform. He graduated in 1940; and

Whereas, PFC Robert F. Mann, never married and, as did all young men of that time, registered for the military draft in June 1942 and was drafted soon afterward.  He trained in tank warfare at Fort Riley, Kansas.  He was stationed in England and France.  He fought in the Battle of the Bulge while serving in General Patton's Third Army.  His tank battalion was the second to cross the Rhine River into Germany via the bridge at Remagen.  Advancing further into Germany his tank struck a German anti-tank mine on March 10, 1945, killing PFC Mann immediately; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate PFC Robert F. Mann and his ultimate sacrifice to our state and country; therefore, be it 

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name Bridge Number: 32-122/00-008.20  () (32A055), (37.53944, -80.66056) locally known as INDIAN CREEK BRIDGE, carrying WV 122 over INDIAN CREEK in Monroe County,  the "U. S. Army PFC Robert F. Mann Memorial Bridge"; and, be it 

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U. S. Army PFC Robert F. Mann Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
