HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 89

Requesting the Division of Highways name Bridge Numbers: 26-002/00-018.04  (NB & SB) (26A014, 26A013), (39.90549, -80.75723) locally known as  Lindsey Bridge & Lindsey Bridge SB, carrying WV 002 over Big Grave Creek in Marshall County, the "U.S. Army Spec 4 Kermit Harold Yoho Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, Kermit Harold Yoho was born February 17, 1945, in Moundsville, West Virginia, to Gerald Luthy Yoho and Mildred Beatrice Bell Yoho; and

Whereas, Kermit Harold Yoho was raised and educated in Moundsville and while in High School worked as a photographer for the Moundsville Daily Echo newspaper; and

Whereas, Kermit Harold Yoho enlisted in the Army and began his tour on November 3, 1965, with the rank of Specialist Four, a Motion Picture Specialist from the Department of the Army Special Photographic Office; and

Whereas, On February 10, 1966, he was assigned to go on a search and clear patrol with C Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division. Spec 4 Yoho was along as a motion picture cameraman. They were walking single file on a trail in a bamboo grove a few miles northwest of Cu Chi in Hau Nghia Province, RVN, when they were told to take a break. Some of the men went right off the trail, the other to the left. Moments later, mortar fire began impacting near their position; and 

Whereas, Yoho died after suffering fragmentation wounds to his body. He was reportedly one week from finishing his tour of Vietnam; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate Spec 4 Kermit Harold Yoho and his ultimate sacrifice for our state and country; therefore, be it 

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name Bridge Numbers: 26-002/00-018.04  (NB & SB) (26A014, 26A013), (39.90549, -80.75723) locally known as  Lindsey Bridge & Lindsey Bridge SB, carrying WV 002 over Big Grave Creek in Marshall County, the "U.S. Army Spec 4 Kermit Harold Yoho Memorial Bridge"; and, be it 

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U.S. Army Spec 4 Kermit Harold Yoho Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
