2525 Requesting the United States Congress to propose an amendment to the Constitution of 1
2626 the United States to set a limit on the number of terms that a person may be elected as a 2

2929 convention of the states to propose a single amendment to the Constitution of the United 5

3333 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 9
3434 WHEREAS art. V, Constitution of the United States, provides the states with the 10
3535 authority to call a constitutional convention for the purpose of proposing an amendment to the 11
3636 Constitution of the United States on application by at least two-thirds of the states; and 12 WHEREAS that power provides the states with the leverage needed to force the 13

4242 WHEREAS the citizens of this state and 22 other states, having passed statutes or 2
4343 state constitutional amendments placing term limits on members of the United States 3
4444 Congress, were overruled by the United States Supreme Court; and 4
4545 WHEREAS the citizens of this state are overwhelmingly supportive of placing term 5
4646 limits on members of the United States Congress; and 6
4747 WHEREAS the Alaska State Legislature, a body of citizen legislators, desires to 7
4848 restore rotation in office for members serving in the United States Congress; 8
4949 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature joins other states in instructing 9
5050 the United States Congress to draft an amendment on term limits and to send the amendment 10
5151 to the states for ratification, failing which the states will act independently; and be it 11
5252 FURTHER RESOLVED by the Alaska State Legislature that, under art. V, 12
5353 Constitution of the United States, the Alaska State Legislature formally applies to the United 13
5454 States Congress to call a convention limited to proposing an amendment to the United States 14
5555 Constitution to set a limit on the number of terms a person may be elected as a member of the 15
5656 United States House of Representatives and as a member of the United States Senate; and be 16

5858 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature requests that this 18
5959 application be considered as covering the same subject matter as the applications from other 19
6060 states to the United States Congress to call a convention to set a limit on the number of terms 20
6161 that a person may be elected to the United States House of Representatives and the United 21
6262 States Senate; and be it 22
6363 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature requests that this 23
6464 application be aggregated with the applications of other states for the purpose of attaining the 24
6565 two-thirds of the states necessary to require the United States Congress to call a limited 25
6666 convention for the purpose of setting term limits on the members of the United States 26
6767 Congress, but that this application not be aggregated with any other application on any other 27
6868 subject; and be it 28
6969 FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution constitutes a continuing application in 29
7070 accordance with art. V, Constitution of the United States, until the legislatures of at least two-30
