8	MOURNING THE DEATH OF MR. HORACE WILTON POWELL, SR.
9 
10	WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
11 death on January 15, 2022, of Mr. Horace Wilton Powell, Sr. of
12 Prattville, Alabama, at the age of 89; and
13	WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of
14 his loving family, many friends, and the entire community,
15 where he was highly regarded; and
16	WHEREAS, Mr. Powell was born on October 18, 1932, to
17 Eugene and Gertrude Powell; and
18	WHEREAS, Mr. Powell was a faithful member, Sunday
19 School Teacher, and Deacon of First Baptist Church; an Army
20 Veteran; a former Rotarian; an Autauga County High School
21 football, wrestling, and basketball coach; an Alabama State
22 Representative; a founding board member of the Prattville
23 YMCA; a founding member of the Alabama Fellowship of Christian
24 Athletes; and a Representative of New York Life; and
25	WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents;
26 brother, Willard Powell; and sister, Peggy McGaha; and
Page 1 1	WHEREAS, Mr. Powell is survived by his loving wife
2 of 67 years, Wilma Nadine Powell; children, Cathy Powell
3 Blalock (Marshall), Patti Powell McCaleb (Robert), Angie
4 Powell Nabors (Charlie), and Horace "Chip" Powell, Jr.
5 (Suzanne); 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; and
6	WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly
7 missed, the memory of Mr. Powell will be cherished in the
8 hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore,
9	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
10 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Mr. Horace
11 Wilton Powell, Sr. is recorded with deep sadness, and this
12 resolution is offered in tribute to his life, along with
13 heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose grief is shared by
14 many.
