1 HB472 2 218722-1 3 By Representative Brown (C) 4 RFD: Urban and Rural Development 5 First Read: 08-MAR-22 Page 0 1 218722-1:n:03/08/2022:AHP/cmg LSA2022-996 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 SYNOPSIS: This bill would enable a parent or guardian 9 of a student at a public K-12 school to opt out of 10 any requirement that the student must wear a face 11 covering at the school, at a school function, on a 12 school bus, or at a school bus stop. 13 14 A BILL 15 TO BE ENTITLED 16 AN ACT 17 18 Relating to urban and rural schools; to enable a 19 parent or guardian of a student at a public K-12 school to opt 20 out of a requirement for that student to wear a face covering. 21 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: 22 Section 1. The parent or guardian of a student of a 23 public K-12 school shall have the right to opt out of any 24 order or requirement for that student to wear a face covering 25 at the school, at a school function, on a school bus, or at a 26 school bus stop, by communicating in writing to the school or Page 1 1 to the local board of education the parent's or guardian's 2 intent to opt out of the order or requirement. 3 Section 2. This act shall become effective on the 4 first day of the third month following its passage and 5 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law. Page 2
