| 21 | 21 | | 14 the compensation of the Sheriff of Madison County effective |

| 22 | 22 | | 15 with the next term of office commencing in January 2023. |

| 23 | 23 | | 16 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: |

| 24 | 24 | | 17 Section 1. Section 45-45-230.01 of the Code of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | 18 Alabama 1975, is amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | 19 "ยง45-45-230.01. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | 20 "(a) Commencing with the next term of office |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | 21 beginning in January of 1999 2023, the Sheriff of Madison |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 22 County shall receive an annual salary of seventy thousand |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | 23 dollars ($70,000) one hundred fifty thousand dollars |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 24 ($150,000). |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | 25 "(b) In addition to the salary provided in |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | 26 subsection (a), the Sheriff of Madison County shall be |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 27 entitled to participate in the county health insurance plan |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Page 1 1 and receive any other benefits to the same extent, under the |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 2 same conditions, in the same manner as county employees and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | 3 the sheriff shall be entitled to receive uniform increases in |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | 4 compensation, such as cost-of-living raises, in the same |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 5 amount as uniform increases in compensation granted equally to |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | 6 county employees by the county commission. |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | 7 "(b)(c) The Sheriff of Madison County shall not |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | 8 receive any monetary compensation of any kind other than |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | 9 reimbursements for itemized expenses and other than the annual |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | 10 salary compensation set forth herein." |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | 11 Section 2. This act shall be effective on the |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | 12 expiration of the term of the incumbent sheriff in January |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | 13 2023. |
